Sony Xperia Sola – Practical and Stylish Smartphone at a Good Price

The Sony Xperia Sola phone has a slim and lightweight design not so pretentious but it's still nice looking, aimed at those looking for a reasonably priced Android Smartphone with good performance.

Construction and design
Framed in wide midrange of an Android phone, Xperia Sola doesn't boasts with a high-performance chipset or impressive screen, relying instead on a compact and practical one, suitable for everyday use.
Contrary to current trends, Sony Xperia Sola presents a rectangular enclosure with rounded edges and slightly asymmetrical little shield applied over the screen being pulled to the bottom, leaving the uncovered part of the body housing. Presented as an extension of the phone, the side of the phone was found a practical, providing a foothold for thumbs when you hold the phone in your hand and use touch interface.
Its 3.7 inch screen is assisted by three capacitive buttons and protected by a mineral glass shield with anti-reflective finish. In sides we find a micro USB 2.0, lock button, volume control damper and a dedicated button for pictures. The headphones jack is positioned at the top so that it does not interfere when we keep our phone in narrow pockets.
Except for the extension described above the screen, the case covers the whole body of the phone. Well molded on the housing cover flex when pressed and gives no impression of solid construction, the fixing mechanism is poor, being much easier to operate. Basically, the lid may come off when trying to extract the phone from narrow pockets, leaving vulnerable components inside. The applied matte finish hides scratches quite well, but retains the dirt and requires regular cleaning.
The camera comes with LED flash and is visible through two cutouts applied to cover that protects the lens from scratches. Under the lid we find a SIM card slot and one microSD card. Unfortunately the 1320 mAh battery is inseparably being sealed with a film that cannot be removed than losing warranty provided by the manufacturer.
XLOUD external speaker technology is installed at the bottom beyond the removable cover, using housing as an extension to loudspeakers, amplifying the volume.
Sony Xperia sola comes shipped with Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread, but we can give up on this version right away, moving to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich version. For installation you must first make sure that the phone battery is fully charged, then launch the Sony PC Companion, with the phone connected to PC via the mini USB cable. Once past the new OS, it is recommended restoring the phone to factory settings using the reset option on the menu Factory Settings.
Performance and Usability
Sony Xperia Sola looks and moves very well with Android ICS, 1GHz dual-core chipset with 512 MB RAM, having enough performance reserve for the new OS. Applications open without waiting times and lists menus are shown cursive.
Its interface is presented with no more than 5 virtual desktops which sailed between left and right gestures. Each screen can hold its own set of shortcuts for apps and widgets. Collection of applications is organized in list groups of 4 rows and 4 columns for a total of 16 visible applications. Scrolling through the list of applications is applied the same with side swipe gestures.
Autonomy
Having 1320 mAh battery installed in its case Sony Xperia sola easily cope with a loaded working day, including Android gaming sessions, internet surfing and tens of minutes of 3G calls.
On a slightly more conservative mode, the interface disable WiFi when you do not need internet access and limit ourselves to a few phone calls a day, Sony Xperia sola achieve a range of about three days.
Conclusion
Sony Xperia Sola Smartphone has a presentable screen of good quality and great performance. Even though it is a little square, the phone has the advantage of light weight and compact design that allows it to slip easily into any pocket.
