Philips GoGear Connect 3 Review

Philips GoGear Connect 3 has a lot of similarities with the Galaxy Players launched by Samsung. Both are Android-based devices and both are competitors to Apple’s iPod Touch.
Basic Difference of the Two
There is however, a basic difference between Samsung Galaxy Player and Philips GoGear Connect 3 is that the former gives the feel of Android phones though they are minus the phone, the latter looks more like MP3 player. Philips GoGear has two models on the basis of memory power such as 8 GB and 16 GB with basic difference of prices accordingly
GoGear 3 Features
Some of the features of the Philips GoGear Connect 3 are as follows.
  • Size wise the device is 2.28 x 0.44 x 4.44 inches.
  • It is smaller than Galaxy Players.
  • Similar to the 4th generation  iPod Touch its thickness is nearly double in density.
  • Structure of the device is made of plastic and therefore it is light weight at 3.7 ounce and cheap as well.
Simplistic Patterns
One of the most attractive feature of the Philips GoGear Connect 3 is its simplistic pattern. Both volume as well as the power buttons are on the right edge making them easier to locate and handle. Since they come in vibrant orange color they easily stand out in the crowd. HVGA display of 3.2inch  480x320 resolution is great experience for the users.
Navigation with GoGear
For navigation users will find three large buttons that are used as back, home, and menu respectively and the Micro-USB port as well as the 3.5mm headphone jack are both placed at the bottom of the device.
A Couple of Downsides
Like any other device the Philips GoGear Connect 3 also has a couple of downsides. For instance;
  • There is no removable battery like the Galaxy Players; and
  • MicroSD card slot is also absent and the capacity cannot be changed.
However, looking at the overall advantages of the device, these downsides can be conveniently overlooked.
Philips GoGear Connect 3 Performance
The device runs on Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) using custom launcher for the home screens as well as app drawer. Though Android based, the device looks a little different from the traditional Android devices. The device is powered by 800MHz single-core processor but has only 400MB RAM that may not be sufficient to run multiple applications at a time.
Wi-Fi Applicatoin
GoGear contains Wi-Fi and one can access the Android Market to download additional content like the Samsung Galaxy Player and the device is Android compatible. With a Bluetooth headset or headphone one can connect to the GoGear using built-in Bluetooth.
Battery Life
While the device claims 25 hours of battery life, the true battery life of the device could come down much lower to around 6 hours when multiple applications are used on it.
Great Advantage
Since GoGear is Android compatible device, one can take advantage of Google-licensed applications including Android maps and markets. User will also have several music-centri applications that is preloaded as well as 7digital music store and Viewer video store.
Philips GoGear Connect 3 has several pros and a few cons. It is one of the Android based devices that allows the user to make  multiple use of it and also comes with digital music and video stores. Despite a couple of downsides like lack of adequate memory and absence of Micro-SD card slot, it still is worth the investment because of numerous advantages and excellent experience it offers.
