LG G Flex: Powerful and Flexible Smartphone

Reaching the mass production stage to flexible screens was one of the important steps taken by screens manufacturers over the past year, these new solutions being able to enjoy television manufacturers, mobile or any other area where stiffness has limited so far creativity. Among the first products that took advantage of this progress include Samsung Galaxy Round and LG G Flex.
Construction and design
As a whole, the new LG G Flex does not depart significantly from the general line of the G2 flagship. Like this G Flex uses a perfectly symmetrical housing, minimalist design and the same Rear Key control system located on the back.
The front of the device is extremely simple, as Gorilla Glass 2 being located there, LED indicator, CCD sensor and front camera for video calls. As noted, G Flex does not offer capacitive touch buttons, only distinct elements in this area is the thin earpiece grille and the LG logo. The screen is encased in a thin plastic frame extending on side edges, which is maintained by the non-detachable rear cover.
Because the buttons are positioned on the rear cover, side frame details are minimized and only include perforation of the upper and lower microphone, audio jack and Micro USB connectors are on the bottom and have a discreet place for Micro SIM card tray located on the left.
Being a phone screen of 6", dimensions of this phone are respectable and it is obvious that we can hardly speak of a comfortable to use phone. Since the upper and lower edges of the device, however, are reduced and the side frame of the screen is narrow, the dimensions are slightly smaller than those of a comparable screen phone like Lumia Ascend Mate or 1520, and weigh only 177 grams, being also very good for this class. The device form is not as good as that of the G2 because of the size, but behind convex curved edges fits well enough in hand to be as pleasant to use as One Max, another example of good design for a giant class phone.
Curved, flexible and resistant to scratches
The idea to produce a curved screen phone to provide superior ergonomics is not new. At the time, flexible displays, however, were not available, and the manufacturer had to be satisfied with the use of a curved screen protector, limited technological solution because thicker glass heads increase weight and distort the image.
Those who read the news about the G Flex wondered, justifiably, why they would need a flexible phone. At least in this case, this flexibility should not be treated as a new stand-alone, but only as a technical solution designed to protect the integrity of the phone. If you ever forgotten a phone on the floor or table and someone sat on it , maybe you have already shaped in mind the effect of this force on a curved screen is not good.
LG did not provide many details about how they obtained this flexibility, but its new batteries, combined with a small PCB located at the top, a flexible screen and a well-timed positioning on the other internal components have enabled a sufficiently strong phone to withstand everything.
Screen, hardware specifications, autonomy
LG customary for a long time to only use IPS panels on its top phones, but the curved and flexible design in this case forced them to use the newly developed P-OLED panel. Bonded plastic layer instead of traditional glass, AMOLED screen was curved to a radius of 700 mm and then glued a curved layer of Gorilla Glass 2, the latter being thin enough to withstand torsion without cracking. The screen on the G Flex does not use In-Cell technology, but protective panel digitizer and is thin enough not to create refractions on extreme viewing angles.
As with any good quality AMOLED panel, the black level is perfect, the contrast is exceptional, viewing angles are wide and the colors are saturated. Those who prefer a palette somewhat closer to reality benefit from a "Natural" color, which also reduces the aggressiveness of colors. Maximum brightness is good, but visibility in sunlight is mediocre.
Like almost all Android phones in the upper range launched in the last six months, LG G Flex uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 platform. The performance of this chip are already well known and put G Flex in the same league with Xperia Z1, Galaxy Note 3, Nexus 5 or G2
  • Display: 6", AMOLED, 1280 x 720 pixels, Gorilla Glass 2
  • OS: Android 4.2.2
  • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
  • Processor: 400 Krait quad-core, 2.26 GHz
  • Graphics Processor: Adreno 330
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Memory: 32 GB
  • Camera: 13 MP
Combined with very good power management optimizations made by LG, the battery capacity is of 3500 mAh. In a system user environment, which involved the use of Wi-Fi and 3G connections for 8 hours daily, about 5 accounts for various services with push and a total of about 8 hours of screen time, LG G Flex has reached 50 hours of battery life, one of the best benefits encountered before.
Capture photos and video
LG has chosen the G Flex camera sensor with a resolution of 13 MP assisted by a f/2.4 aperture lens, a list of specifications similar to those provided by the G2 model. Captured images offers pleasant natural color saturation, good contrast, white balance and a good level of detail. The phone does not have a dedicated macro mode, but it provides a reasonable catch at a distance of about 5-6 inches.
Video capture is characterized by the appearance record at a resolution of 3840 x 2150 pixels UHD. Like the G2, G Flex offers full HD video recording at 30 or 60 frames per second with good quality and a stable number of frames per second, mediocre audio fidelity from the previous model was significantly improved.
Photo capture application stand out by focusing on nine points, an unusual feature for a camera phone, and the manual focus option, very useful especially for macro pictures. The options range is extensive, LG G Flex featuring Burst capture, Best Shot, Panorama (low resolution), 3D panorama, a good HDR and dual photo capture which allows you to simultaneously use the front camera of 2 MP but at limited resolution capturing at 720p.
